I agree... most anything can be done safely in moderation. But if you gain 12,000 backlinks over 48 hours that's definitely going to raise lots of red flags.

I've learned recently that less is more.

well, if you get many back links instantly than offcourse google will doubt on it,, but if you are getting them gradually then fine, google dont have any problem with them..

It makes since that google should not penalize for too many links but they do. Especially if you used the same anchor text. and yes we could not a competitor off easily. I think a case study would be better than just going by logic. Google does not use logic. YahooMail

The video guy sounds like he is talking to a 10 year old. I mean come on ,8 minutes just to say that incoming back links don't hurt your ranking but linking to bad sites does. How the hell did he even manage to talk for so long. All I was after was "no it doesn't hurt your rankings" lol.

Like what you mentioned, having too many backlinks will not affect our website's ranking.. "because we don't have total control of where will our links will be placed", if too many backlinks can affect our site, our competitors can easily spread our links from different websites for us to be penalized. It is another factor that google looks upon.

Pretty much. Your goal is to get backlinks from sites that have at least 2PR above what your site is at.

That's interesting, I read somewhere else also that Google's own pages were getting slapped because of earlier incidents. So they changed it. Can get a sigh of relief now.
